Visiting the vet can be stressful for both pet and owner. Between the car ride, unfamiliar space, and other animals, it’s not uncommon for an animal’s nerves to set in. Don’t miss these three tips for keeping the experience as stress-free as possible:
1. Relax: This may be easier said than done, but the more calm you can remain, the more calm your pet will be. It’s likely your four-legged companion can sense when you’re stressed or agitated, so try to take a few deep breaths and stay positive about the situation.
2. Go for a joyride: If the only time your pet gets to travel by car is to the vet’s office, there’s a good chance negative emotions are associated with car rides. Before your pet’s next vet’s appointment, take a few fun rides to the park or just a around the neighborhood with plenty of treats and praise at the end. Your pet won’t be so stressed at the vet’s office if the ride there is a calm one.
3. Pick a calming scent: Pheromone products often do wonders for a stressful situation. Spray some on your pet’s bedding at home and in your pet’s carrier or on a towel in the car. If necessary, you can always take the towel into the vet’s office with you. This calming and familiar scent will help your pet feel at ease.
