4 Reasons You Should Let Your Dog Sleep in Your Bed

dog-in-bed blogIt’s estimated that more than half of dog owners in the United States allow their canine companion to sleep in their bed. While this may not be a great idea for everyone (like those suffering from allergies or asthma), there are several benefits to snuggling up with Fido. Below are a few reasons to consider letting your canine companion snooze by your side:

1.  They’re natural heaters: There’s no better way to stay warm on a chilly winter night than to let your puppy cuddle up next to you.

2. They calm your nerves: It’s been proven that dogs can help reduce stress and anxiety. A worry-free mind is sure to help you get a more restful night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed.

3. They’re great protectors: Your canine companion is both your best friend and your guardian. Dogs, big or small, are great protectors because they tend to bark when they hear a strange sound. It’s easier to sleep soundly knowing Fido has your back.

4. They’re the best cuddle buddies: Both you and your dog will benefit from time spent snuggling. It will strengthen your bond, boost your mood, and make your dog feel calm and loved.

Of course, there are always exceptions. If you suffer from one of the above mentioned health issues or your sleep gets disrupted from puppy snores, investing in a comfortable dog bed for your canine companion might be a smart choice.

I couldn’t possibly sleep without my three pugs cuddled up next to me. Their warmth and love lull me to sleep and keep me asleep throughout he night.

We have a Red Tiger Bulldog puppy at 70+ lbs and he sleeps in our bed and he loves it. He’s our big baby but he definitely will protect us. We love him to death.

I have slept with doggies for the last 35 years. The 6 months I didn’t have a dog were the worst nights of my life. Enough said!

I have a redbone walker mix, and she makes it hard for my husband and me to sleep because she likes to hog the bed.

My dog does not give us a choice. If he cant jump in himself he will cry at the bottom of our bed until someone puts him in the bed. He has his own bed but we have to put his bed in our bed so he can sleep in it. Yes he is a rotten little thing.

almost 2 centuries ago, Arrian (who considered himself to be Xenophon’s successor in dog writing) wrote that a dog loves the person he sleeps with as much as the person who feeds him.
and yes indeed, a dog under the blankets gives wonderful warmth (hard to believe their body temperature is only 3 degrees F higher than ours) and great emotional comfort. FoxTheWickedQueensland helps me make it through the night. but some others prefer their own beds.
