It’s almost time for the spookiest night of the year! Halloween may be full of fun and frights for families, but there are several dangers lurking for pets. During all of the commotion of the big night, it’s important to think about safety for your four-legged family members.
If you decide to include Fido or Fluffy in the fun by dressing them up in a costume, be sure that their outfit doesn’t interfere with breathing or movement in any way. Also, pet costumes shouldn’t contain any small pieces that could be potential choking hazards.
Since chocolate is a danger for canine companions, Halloween candy should be kept safely out of reach from pets. Lit candles, including those in jack-o’-lanterns, should also be kept far away from pets. Lastly, all of the commotion of Halloween night can be stressful for pets, so it’s best to keep them in a comfortable area of the house away from the ringing doorbell and scary costumes. All pets should be equipped with a collar and ID tag in case one does manage to slip out the door.
