Hartz Mountain Corporation Issues Recall of Advanced Nutrition Perfect Protein Tropical Flake Fish Food

HartzDue to potential Salmonella contamination, Hartz Mountain Corporation is voluntarily recalling certain lots of Wardley Advanced Nutrition Perfect Protein Tropical Flake Fish Food.

The recall applies to Wardley Advanced Nutrition Perfect Protein Tropical Flake Fish Food 1 oz. containers with the UPC number 0-43324-00591-7. The recall is isolated to the following lot codes manufactured by Hartz in Pleasant Plain, Ohio; PP34911, PP34912, PP35011 and PP35012.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious infections in animals and people. Children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk for infection. Contaminated fish food poses a risk to animals eating the product and a risk to people handling the product. Symptoms of Salmonella infection in humans include fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach pain.

The recall is precautionary, as Hartz has not yet received any reports of humans or animals becoming ill due to exposure to this product. Fish owners who have purchased this fish food should make sure the lot number does not match the numbers listed above. If the lot number is one that has been recalled or is not visible on the packaging, Hartz instructs fish owners to immediately discontinue use of the product and discard it.
