Invention of the Week: The Enhanced Pet Bowl!

enhancedOne of the most rudimentary and necessary items for any pet, is a bowl to contain its food and water. It can be a basic metal bowl, a ceramic bowl painted with its name in bright colors, or a literal soup or cereal bowl from your pantry – but your pet has to eat out of it safely and effectively. Many of us have not really given a proper thought about our pets’ bowls, aside from what designs should be on it, or whether or not it should have a witty phrase scrawled on it. But, for some pets, the usual bowl that most of us use doesn’t cut it – whether for medical problems, or behavioral issues. Here is a new type of pet bowl that is really making a difference in some pets’ lives – the Enhanced Pet Bowl:

Let’s take a moment to talk about Brachycephalic dog breeds, which basically involves all dogs with “smushed” faces such as Pugs, Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, and more. Actually, there are quite a few cat and rabbit breeds that also have this same “short head” (which is what Brachycephalic means) characteristic. While it is unmistakably adorable, there are many drawbacks to having their cute little faces, which are significantly flatter than most other animals. It is a well-known fact that many of these cuties have breathing problems, but there are also many eating and digestive problems that could arise too – that’s where the Enhanced Pet Bowl comes in!enhanced2

enhancedpetbowl2As the company says, the usual pet bowl that we’ve been using since the beginning of time was designed by humans, for humans – with the dual use of serving as a bowl for pets. That has seemingly worked for a long time, but now with the popularity of Brachycephalic dog breeds (I’m looking at you, French Bulldogs), it was only a matter of time before people started realizing that there was an alternative. The Enhanced Pet Bowl proudly touts itself as the first pet bowl designed specifically for pets, and it has already received many glowing reviews by customers who have noticed drastic positive changes in their pets’ lives!enhanced5

What makes the Enhanced Pet Bowl different, is the fact that your dog doesn’t have to eat at a sharp, 90-degree angle anymore! If you’ve ever watched your pet eat, you’ll notice it basically has to stick its face downward and face the ground to eat its mound of food. This proves very problematic due to the fact that, “this forces them to fight gravity while they eat,” as the Enhanced Products’ Site says. This causes your beloved animal to attempt to eat quickly and “shovel” their food to the back of their mouth, causing choking, nausea, and vomiting. While the bowl was originally designed for our flat-faced-furry-friends (that may be the most ridiculous alliteration I’ve ever written in my life), it definitely helps all animals!enhancedpetbowl

Another phenomenon that owners have had success with is their pet quitting the habit of taking food out of the bowl, and taking it to another room or putting it on the floor to eat little bits at a time. This is no doubt a habit derived from the issue I explained above (eating too much too quickly), and many customers of the Enhanced Pet Bowl have reported that their dog doesn’t do this anymore! I actually have a dog of my own who always does this, and now I am very curious to see if she could finally eat her meal in one place…enhanced3

Besides these important improvements, it also reduces mess – on  your floor around the dish, as well as your pet’s face from becoming smeared with its food. Because of the sloped design and the ridge inside, your pet can separate pieces of food to a different place in the bowl without having to resort to putting it on the ground (which defeats the whole purpose of the bowl in the first place). So if you have a pet that has digestive issues or difficulty eating – especially if they are elderly/disabled or of the Brachycephalic variety – I highly recommend you give this product a try! If you do, get back to me and let me know how it’s workin’ out!enhanced4

I cannot wait to try this. I have a bulldog and oftentimes have to hand feed him because he looks at me as if to say I can’t reach it…help. I always on the look out for a product or food that would.make it easier for my pug and bull-baby to eat.

I’m suprised you did not comment about large breeds. They should always eat from a raised set of bowls….water and food. Folks don’t know this. They feel dogs should eat on the floor.

Good point, I didn’t talk about that because it wasn’t really about the Enhanced Pet Bowl. You’re right though, it’s interesting that for so many years we have been led to believe that pets should not only eat off of the ground, but that they should eat out of a flat bottomed bowl! It’s amazing that finally there are breakthroughs happening in pet care inventions and knowledge that can help our pets eat better and not choke/throw up their food!
