If football isn’t really your fancy but dogs are, turn to NBC Sports tomorrow from noon until 2 pm (whatever time zone you are in) to watch a broadcast of the 10th Annual National Dog Show. Sponsored by Purina and presented by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, the show will have some of the top show dogs in North America competing for Best in Show top honors. This show ranks right up there with the Eukanuba competition (in December in Florida this year) and Westminster in New York City in February.
A special dog will be part of the festivities this year. Eli is a Belgian Sheepdog who is not only a breed champion but also an amazing therapy dog. He was one of the first dogs in Ground Zero after 9/11 to provide assistance to workers and families of victims. Recently Eli has been seen all around promoting responsible dog ownership and therapy dog work. Ronald McDonald House is one of his favorite stops.
This is also your chance to see some of the latest breeds to join the AKC ranks. Look for the giant Leonberger, the cute Icelandic Sheepdog and the active Norwegian Buhund among others.
