Three of the Most Athletic Dog Breeds

autralian shepherd agil editedOne of the many wonderful things about dogs is that they’re all so different. No matter what your lifestyle or activity level, you can find a loyal canine companion that fits right in with your family. If you’re looking for an active dog with athletic tendencies, the following breeds might be good choices to consider:

1.) Labrador Retriever: Labs are one of the most popular breeds in the United States, in addition to being one of the most athletic. This breed excels at a variety of activities including hunting, search and rescue, and agility.

2.) Australian Shepherd (pictured): These dogs are known for their focus and energy. Aussies, as they’re often called, are one of the most intelligent dog breeds and they thrive in obedience training and sports like flyball.

3.) Greyhounds: This breed’s sleek body type and athletic nature allows them to reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. While greyhounds are fast and love to play, they also have a reputation for being serious couch potatoes at the end of a strenuous day.

A small dog breed that will get you into shape is the Jack Russell Terrier. Mine has gone for 7 mile hikes and would go for more everyday.
