Summer’s here, which for many means time for family vacation. For pet parents, out-of-town trips sometimes include the four-legged members of the family. VetDepot’s newest infographic, On the Road with Your Pets, reveals that 76% of families vacationing with pets choose to travel by car. With so many four-legged companions hitting the road, it’s important for owners to consider the special needs of pets during car travel.
Below is a checklist for pet owners preparing to hit the open road:
•Visit the Vet: It’s important for pets to get a checkup before a vacation to make sure all vaccinations are current and that they’re healthy enough to handle a potentially stressful car ride.
•Plan Ahead: Make sure to pack all of your pet’s necessary supplies including food, treats, pet medications, etc. Also be sure all animals are wearing proper identification or consider a permanent microchip.
•Make Pet-Friendly Accommodations: If you’re planning on staying in a hotel, make sure they accept pets to avoid being stranded once you’ve reached your destination.
