Treating Canine Separation Anxiety

reconcileDoes your dog get nervous when you prepare to leave the house?  Urinate or defecate inside while you are gone?  Chew or scratch on inappropriate objects in your absence?  Do your neighbors complain that your dog howls while you are away?  If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, your dog might be suffering from separation anxiety.

Thankfully, treatment is available.  The anti-anxiety medication Reconcile® (fluoxetine) has been paired with a behavioral modification plan for separation anxiety.  Together, the two approaches are more effective than either is by itself.  The behavioral modification program focuses on Being positive, Only rewarding calm behavior, No more drama when coming and going, and Developing the dog’s independence.  The medication decreases anxiety and increases a dog’s ability to respond to the BOND training.

Talk to your veterinarian if you think that your dog could benefit from Reconcile® and the BOND Training program.
